World Rugby L1 Coaching Course

Interested in building up your skills knowledge and understanding of Rugby Union. This World Rugby accredited Level 1 course is the foundational stepping stone needed. 

The World Rugby Level 1 coaching 15s course is designed to provide aspiring rugby coaches with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to coach the 15-a-side version of the game. This course serves as an introductory level for coaches who are new to coaching or have limited experience in coaching rugby union.

The course covers a wide range of topics, including the basic principles of rugby, player safety and welfare, effective communication, and the technical and tactical aspects of the game. Coaches will learn about the laws of the game, the roles and responsibilities of different positions, and the key skills required to play rugby, such as passing, tackling, and rucking.

Participants will also gain an understanding of the coaching process, including planning and organizing training sessions, developing appropriate drills and activities, and evaluating player performance. The course emphasizes the importance of creating a positive and inclusive coaching environment, fostering player development, and promoting fair play and sportsmanship.

The Level 1 coaching course consists of both theory and practical components. Coaches will engage in classroom sessions, discussions, and interactive exercises to enhance their understanding of the game and coaching techniques. They will also have the opportunity to apply their knowledge on the field through practical coaching sessions, where they will learn how to effectively demonstrate and teach rugby skills to players.

Upon successful completion of the course, coaches will receive a World Rugby Level 1 coaching certificate, indicating their competence and readiness to coach at the grassroots level. This certification opens up opportunities for coaches to progress to higher coaching levels and gain further expertise in coaching 15s rugby.

Participants will also receive the Rugby Ready module on the day as a free inclusive module.

World Rugby covers Rugby Union and although key elements are similar, this does not cover Touch or other variations of coaching.
